Unshielded cables are electrical or data transmission cables that lack additional shielding layers, such as metal foil or braided mesh, to protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI). They rely on design features, like twisted pairs, to minimize noise and are widely used in low-noise environments, such as office networks and general telecommunications. Cost-effective, lightweight, and flexible, they are easier to install but more susceptible to interference compared to shielded cables, making them less suitable for high-EMI areas. A common example is Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) cables used in Ethernet networks.
